A few years ago, I learned about this amazing non-profit that provides shoes to people in areas impacted by extreme poverty or natural disaster. SHOES! One of my favorite things.... As a life-long shoe lover, how was I just hearing about this? An organization that helps people through shoes - now THAT'S a charity I could get behind! In 2012, I took my first trip to Honduras - and completely fell in love with the S4S mission, the micro-enterprise program, and all the people I met on my journey. I left a little piece of my heart there - and I have been going back ever since.
7 trips later (and 1 to Guatemala), it never ceases to amaze me what a great cause this is - and how we can ALL play a small part in wearing out poverty. Whether it's volunteering your time, traveling with S4S, supporting a fundraiser (like mine) with a monetary donation, or cleaning out your closet - we all have something to give. AND NO GIFT IS TOO SMALL.
When mom and I got back from Guatemala a few months ago, Tim and I were talking about the trip, and other ways we can make a difference for Soles. He suggested a fundraiser - where we could get all our friends and families involved in something that means so much to me.
But where to start? What's our goal? How did we come up with $25k? Admittedly, it's a pretty lofty figure. Well....it costs approximately $25k to send a 40' shipping container to a developing country - filled with shoes that will provide children with adequate footwear for 2-3 years!
So here we are. Will you help us?
Just a small donation will go a long way to helping us meet our goal for Soles4Souls. For every dollar donated, Soles4Souls can provide one pair of shoes to help create and sustain jobs AND provide relief to people in need.
